Sculpture and Mixed Media Art

Sculpture and Mixed Media Art Come explore your creativity and knowledge during this artistic day. You will discover and create art from the endless possibilities of three- dimensional sculpture and mixed media techniques that will include printmaking, collage and altered art. Students will become familiar with a variety of contemporary artists while examining their personal histories, themes, and influences evident within their artwork. You’ll create your own works of art and broaden your knowledge of possibilities in this field. Come dressed for mess or bring an oversized shirt to cover your clothing. Students are asked to bring black and white photocopies of pictures of them at different ages.
Meet the Instructor(s)
Minuette Floyd is an Associate Professor of Art and Director of the Young Artist's Workshop at University of South Carolina. She is director of the Young Artist’s Workshop, a practicum experience for art education majors. During this program, her students teach children who are ages 5-17 years of age. Her research focuses on multicultural art education, interdisciplinary art instruction, and folk traditions. Her most recent awards include the J. Eugene Grigsby Award (2010), the Mac Arthur Goodwin Award (2009), Living the Legacy Award given by the National Council of Negro Women, (2009), National Outstanding Performance in Higher Education Award (2003), and the Mary J. Rouse Award for Art Education (2002). She has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the South Carolina Humanities Council, and the South Carolina Arts Commission to compile her photographic documentary based on African-American Camp Meeting Traditions. She has received two Fulbright Hays Research Awards to travel and study for a month in both South Africa (2002) and Senegal (2009).
Minuette has taught Art courses for the summer youth program, Carolina Master Scholars Adventure Series and this is her second time teaching for Duke TIP Academic Adventures.
