The University of South Carolina, the Palmetto State’s flagship university, offers a diverse array of pre-University programs that will help you make the most of your summer. Take a look at our 2010 offerings, and sign up this year for a summer of learning and fun.
When you enroll in one of our summer academic programs, you might qualify for an early-bird discount or a full or partial scholarship. This summer, outstanding students like you are discovering the power to amaze. Challenge yourself like never before with the Carolina Master Scholars Adventure Series.
Learn from top University of South Carolina faculty and research professors as you practice law and order, author an anthology, or build your own robot. These adventures will maximize your learning experience by enriching you physically, mentally, and socially. Submit your application by April 16, 2010, to qualify for the early-bird rate.
You must be academically talented to be eligible for enrollment. Classes are limited to 20 students unless otherwise noted.
Price: $575 - $975 dependent upon program type and application date. A laboratory fee may be charged for certain courses.

SAT/ACT Summer Test Prep Institute
University Test Prep provides thorough preparation for high stakes undergraduate admissions exams. The Institute provides 20 hours of on-campus classroom learning and is led by a professional test prep instructor. The Institute also offers comprehensive review opportunities through additional interactive online review sessions. Classes are held Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and lunch is included.

Partners for Minorities In Engineering and Computer Science
This partnership between educators and businesses provides gifted minority students with cultural and academic activities and role models in engineering and computer science. Through a series of technical workshops, students are exposed to the sciences, which helps enhance their academic skills. Rising high-school freshmen spend four days and three nights on the University of South Carolina campus,a nd returning students (10th – 12th) spend six days and five nights on campus. College of Engineering and Computing personnel assist with the workshops.

Summary of 2009 PMECS (PDF)
Aspiring pianists in grades 8 through 12 receive daily private lessons with University of South Carolina School of Music piano faculty, attend evening concerts performed by internationally renowned concert pianists, participate in master classes with guest artists, and perform in a professional concert setting. The festival culminates with the Arthur Fraser International Concerto Competitions, whose top three winners will perform with the South Carolina Philharmonic in the following season.
